Naval Wargaming College Sails Into Woodstock
Ethereal Confections host site of Naval Wargaming Event
From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, HMGS-Midwest will host a Naval Wargaming College upstairs at Ethereal Confections, 140 Cass St. in The Woodstock Square. The event will offer opportunities for wargamers, history enthusiasts and those who are simply curious to participate in one or two of a variety of naval wargaming scenarios.
“We’ll have naval games from the Napoleonic Era … all the way up to WWII,” said Kevin Cabai, the president of HMGS-Midwest. “It’s a great opportunity for those who know a little about history to come out and see how history might change based on their actions.”
Games will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m. Some of the games will straddle the 1 p.m. lunch break.
The gaming will be followed by a naval wargaming symposium and discussion.
The cost for attending is $5. It’s free for members of HMGS-Midwest, with a yearly membership costing $10. Children 12-and-under are free as are active members of the Boy Scouts.
Cabai said that there are numerous naval wargaming events around the Midwest hosted by a number of organizations. There was a naval wargaming event in Milwaukee until a few years ago. Some of the people enjoyed that event were eager to see another naval-focused event.
Gamers, of course, will have access to the full menu downstairs at the café where Ethereal Confections provides the world’s best chocolate.
